Today was the toughest day physically so far. When we got back from our bike ride, I looked up Ironman training plans and am feeling truly humbled. Our little challenge is barely what Ironmen do every week! Badasses. They are true badasses.

Run

I popped right out of bed at 5, but Rob struggled a bit. It’s like we reversed roles from yesterday.

It was another cloudy day, so we had a cool run. Both of our legs were feeling really lethargic and the last 3 miles of the run were 15-20 seconds slower than the first 4. It wasn’t that they hurt, it was just difficult to get them to move. It was our goal to hit the halfway mark and we did!

Transition 1

Since we were dragging a bit, we took about 15 minutes between the run and bike. A full banana, some post-run stretching, and water-refilling. Also, a lot of grumbling about being tired.

Bike

Man were our legs tired! Like, really tired. We aimed for 20 miles today to help get halfway on the bike and it remains our toughest leg of this whole thing. We took another new-to-us trail, which was fun to explore. When we got back and check our elevation, it said we climbed 1600 feet! No wonder we were so fatigued.

Right now, we are both feeling a little defeated by the biking. Perhaps it is because we are on hybrid bikes that are really not meant for this kind of mileage. We’re just working with what we’ve got!

Victories

Being more than halfway in all 3 distances with 4 days left! Not being sunburned. With all the cloud cover and rain, we’ve lucked out both sunburn wise and overheating wise.

Grumbles

Fatigued legs. Knowing we have some more long bike rides ahead of us.
