Zoey simultaneously thinks she can do everything on her own and still wants to do the same things William does.
She wants to drink tea with me in the afternoons, but wants a booster seat at the table.
She wants to ride her big kid bike everywhere, but then asks to sit in the stroller during a walk.
She wants to lead the way during a hike, but starts crying when she sees an ant.
One thing Zoey always wants to do is to help out in the kitchen. Even when she was just two years old, her favorite activity was to perch on the kitchen counter and help me sprinkle cheese on mini-pizzas, sample zucchini, and mix up all the ingredients being added to a bowl.

Now that Zoey is almost four, she is much more capable in the kitchen and able to do so many more complex tasks.
She pours cereal, chops fruit, spreads peanut butter, and fills muffin tins. The proud smile on her face when she makes a full meal is epic (and completely worth the extra mess).
I had been hearing about Raddish Kids for a few months and when the company offered to send me a trial kit, I jumped at the chance.
Zoey loved it.
Truthfully, so did I.

When Zoey and I cook together, typically I am giving her directions on what to do next, how to cut certain foods, how much of something to put in, and how well to mix it. It takes a lot of concentration for her to listen to my directions and for me to find the best way to explain tasks to her.
With Raddish Kids, Zoey was able to read the directions on the recipe cards pretty much by herself. The pictures let her know exactly what she had to, which ingredients she needed, and which kitchen tools to use.

It really put her in the lead and me in the backseat. To hear Zoey tell it, she was the Real Chef and I was the Sous Chef.
Zoey was absolutely beaming when the two meals she made were finished and we all sat down as a family to eat them. Her pride, her excitement, her willingness to try the new dishes. It was the highlight of her week.

Naturally, having any excuse to dress up is also a win for our girl, so she had to put on her full apron and chef hat regalia before she would even step foot in the kitchen.
Raddish Kids is a monthly cooking kit sent right to you. Our box, Taste of Thailand, included three recipes, conversation cards, a whisk (each box comes with a kitchen tool), and an activity.
What I Loved
Recipe Guides
The step by step pictures were perfect for Zoey because she could “read” them herself without me having to dictate to her. She was really able to take the lead on what we had to do.
The guides are trifold and laminated, so they easily stood up on the kitchen counter and could withstand the wet and mess. I was really thankful they were sturdy and did not get ruined because Zoey carried around her recipe cards all week.

Kitchen Tool
Our Taste of Thailand Kit came with a mini whisk. Sure, we already have two whisks, but Zoey was pumped to have one of her very own.
When she cooked Mango Sticky Rice with Rob, he pulled out one of our old whisks and Zoey refused to use it. She had to have her red one.
Table Talk Cards
By the time we finished making the Pad Thai (we got a late start), Zoey was too tired from all the excitement to even eat. Our little chatterbox was all about the Table Talk Cards that came with the kit though.
She shuffled through them at least three times as we discussed the questions as a family. It was a really easy and creative way to keep the dinner conversation going.

Ingredients We Already Had
The fact that Raddish Kids does not send you the actual food is a complete win. With how crazy our days get over here with three kids under the age of three, I cannot always count on getting to certain meals on certain days. Sure, I do the meal planning, but sometimes you have to call an audible.
Raddish Kids sends the recipe guides so we can make the meals at our leisure. I am not wasting food, items are not getting ruined in transit, and the recipes included a majority of items we already had on hand.
Emailed Ingredients Ahead of Time
Before our kit arrived, I received an email with a list of the recipes and the ingredients. It made it so easy to work them into our meal plan for the week and add the items to our weekly grocery run.

What I Did Not Like
Sugar
It may have just been the particular recipes in the Taste of Thailand Kit, but the mango sticky rice had ⅔ cup of sugar. The Pad Thai sauce also had a half cup of brown sugar. Since we typically do not eat a lot of sugar, this felt like a bit much.
All The Resources
This is not a bad thing! I am just an overachiever and want to do all the parts to anything I start. This is why I had a 4.0 at the end of graduate school.
Raddish Kids does not just send the recipes. They send a creative kitchen project, an online bonus recipe, musical playlists, lesson plans, sneak peek hints into next month’s theme, a Facebook group, and a badge in every box.
My task loving self wants to do it all, but there is just too much to get through. The amount of resources Raddish Kids provides is truly incredible.
If you have any desire to have your child help out in the kitchen, then Raddish Kids is a perfect way to make that happen. It lays out the steps for you, gives your child some independence in the kitchen, and creates memories for everyone. Plus, I am always up for a new recipe!

Kids look so cute in their little chef cap and someone eating their cooked food makes them so happy. I think their happiness does worth this Raddish kit. The best part was how they mail the list of the ingredients beforehand.
I agree! I love that the ingredients are mailed ahead of time so we are ready to go when our kit arrives.
