For the holiday weekend, Rob and I decided to take a last minute camping trip to Canyonlands National Park.

We arrived just before noon on Saturday and spent the afternoon hiking around the Island in the Sky section of the park.

Canyonlands is a huge park and is divided into three sections. It takes about two and a half hours, or more, to drive from one section to the next. With the Island in the Sky section being the most accessible from Moab, it is the most popular and was absolutely packed!

Since our trip was so last minute, we had some trouble finding a spot to camp. The campgrounds were completely full until we got a few miles out of Moab. I basically pleaded with the camp host to just give us a flat spot to park the mini van as we planned to sleep in the back. He hooked us up with the employee parking spot and even moved a picnic table over for us. Thank you, Jim!

Sunday morning turned out to be rather rainy and the clouds didn’t look like they were going to clear, so we opted to drive home instead of driving to the Needles District (another two and a half hours away). Plus, breakfast burritos are the bomb and we were in no rush to rush them.

Our way home through the mountains was insane! Snow, hail, sleet, accidents. It was a dangerous place to be, but we made it to sunny Denver.

For such a quick trip, I had a blast. Just that one night away felt like we were gone much longer. It was exactly what I needed to recharge for the last two weeks of school!
