The end of the school year is worse for teachers than it is for students (teacher friends: can I get an amen?). This long holiday weekend is just a teaser for what summer is going to be like and going back to work on Tuesday is kind of like a slap in the face.

Thankfully, there have been a few events that are helping me get through the final school daze (pun intended).

For instance, playing hooky for an afternoon last week to help out at the middle school field day/health fair 5k. The kids were so excited about the race and really did a good job of getting through the 3 miles. No one gave up! Plus, as the high school cross country and track coach, I was able to do some recruiting for the incoming freshman. (One boy ran his 5k in 17:07…hello state meet!)

Getting ready to run!

There were also the sombreros two of my track athletes wore around for an entire day. Around lunch, they put chips in the brim and went to their afternoon classes like nothing was off. Hilarious (especially because they aren’t my students!).

Though it was crazy making, the tornado warnings had us in our shelters for two days in a row. I tell you, this Denver weather is insane! From the four inches of snow a few weeks ago, to bright sunny days, to tornados, I don’t know what to expect at any given moment!

The last thing that is really helping me stay focused in these last few weeks was this note. After coming back from a meeting, I had a post-it note surprise that almost brought me to tears.

What it's all about

This is what it’s all about, people.

RQ: How do you survive the last few days before summer? If you don’t have summers free, how do you survive work days during the summer?
