A bit of housekeeping: I have updated some of the pages and their drop downs. I’m hoping this makes finding workouts and exploring some past Tall Tales Tuesday posts a bit easier. Now onto our regularly scheduled programming.
Rob’s and my recent trip to New York was partly to celebrate Jackie’s upcoming wedding with a bridal shower and bachelorette party and partly to see my parents’ new house in the Hamptons.
Their new place is about 30 minutes away from Montauk, the very tip of Long Island, and we spent the Monday before we left exploring the Montauk Lighthouse.
Once we made sure Rob was tall enough, we explored the living quarters turned museum of the lighthouse.
The museum was extremely well put together with history of Montauk, the lighthouse, and a room dedicated to the erosion prevention efforts of the parks service.
My favorite part of the lighthouse was the spiral staircase up to the top of the lighthouse. There were just shy of 200 steps and the museum workers kept warning us about how strenuous of a climb it was.
Thank goodness the four of us are in good shape because those stairs were not an issue for us. Some other tourists were huffing and puffing and sweating profusely by the time they reached the top!
The view from the top was beautiful, but we only had about 10 seconds to see it as one person at a time was allowed on the top step and there was a bit of a line behind us.
Since I have a bit of a thing for signs, I found this one to be quite amusing. Just beyond it was the 8 foot tall fog horn. That thing would definitely knock someone off their feet if they were next to it when it went off.
The day ended with a stop at a road side lobster roll spot. Fresh fish and chips = yum!

That view is gorgeous!!
When we spent part of a summer in New Jersey, we went to a couple of light houses. Our boys were only 4 & 6 at the time so Chris and I usually took turns going all the way to the top because usually at least one of the boys freaked out over the height!!
Yikes! At least there were two of you to help with the boys.
Beautiful photos! I have never been to the top of a lighthouse but it would be fun! We have a monument in our area from the Revolutionary War and the stairs are crazy steep and have NO railing. If you fall, you are done. It is super scary inside! I will never climb it again, I was so worried about falling!
I also have a thing for state signs. Whenever we drive into a new state, I have to take a picture of the sign. Luckily, Gunshow is now on board with it!
The non-railing thing would absolutely freak me out! I’m a state sign, national park sign, funny sign, you name it sign photo taker.
