A bit of housekeeping: I have updated some of the pages and their drop downs. I’m hoping this makes finding workouts and exploring some past Tall Tales Tuesday posts a bit easier. Now onto our regularly scheduled programming.

Rob’s and my recent trip to New York was partly to celebrate Jackie’s upcoming wedding with a bridal shower and bachelorette party and partly to see my parents’ new house in the Hamptons.

Their new place is about 30 minutes away from Montauk, the very tip of Long Island, and we spent the Monday before we left exploring the Montauk Lighthouse.

Montauk Lighthouse

Once we made sure Rob was tall enough, we explored the living quarters turned museum of the lighthouse.

Checking Rob's height

The museum was extremely well put together with history of Montauk, the lighthouse, and a room dedicated to the erosion prevention efforts of the parks service.

Lighthouse dwelling entrance

My favorite part of the lighthouse was the spiral staircase up to the top of the lighthouse. There were just shy of 200 steps and the museum workers kept warning us about how strenuous of a climb it was.

Tower Entrance

Thank goodness the four of us are in good shape because those stairs were not an issue for us. Some other tourists were huffing and puffing and sweating profusely by the time they reached the top!

Mom, Dad, and I on the stairs

The view from the top was beautiful, but we only had about 10 seconds to see it as one person at a time was allowed on the top step and there was a bit of a line behind us.

View from the top of the lighthouse

Since I have a bit of a thing for signs, I found this one to be quite amusing. Just beyond it was the 8 foot tall fog horn. That thing would definitely knock someone off their feet if they were next to it when it went off.

Fun Signage

The day ended with a stop at a road side lobster roll spot. Fresh fish and chips = yum!

RQ: Have you explored a lighthouse? Ever climbed a crazy amount of stairs?
