January is just moving right along! I have to be honest, that in that in the past 4 months, this month has felt like the most normal paced and not like it is completely flying. How has it felt for you?
Honesty time.
Now that we are three weeks into the new year. How are you doing on your resolutions?
Let me tell you what I see so often when people are setting health and fitness goals, and the start of the new year is no exception. You set your goals, make plans, share your goals, and are excited to make a change. You move through the first few days of your plan with no issues. Towards the end of the first week there may be a “slip”, but the motivation is still there!
Towards the middle of week two, you start to feel a bit tired and sluggish. After all, quitting sugar is hard! Lowering your caffeine intake is not easy! Finding the time to hit the gym is a lot of coordination. But, you are powering through.
Then week 3 hits. You half heart your meal plan. You skip the gym a few times in favor of some Netflix. You are out of ideas for what to pack for lunch. You never want to see a green smoothie again.
So, here we are at week 4. Your goals are fluttering on the edge of your mind and you are starting to enter feeling like a failure territory. You are about ready to give up on this goal and deal with it when you get closer to your vacation, or your big event, or the end of the year, or whatever deadline you give yourself to make it happen.
First, you are not a failure. New goals are hard to reach because we tend to set lofty ones in short time periods that involve a great deal of behavior change if we want to accomplish them.
Second, you CAN accomplish your goal, but you may have to do a bit of tweaking to make it more manageable and in a more realistic time frame.
Third, I am here to help!
