Working with a Health Coach is a completely unique experience from having a personal trainer or doctor’s appointment. Rather than just focusing on physical fitness or reactive medicine, Health Coaches are trained in the whole person. This means they have a wide knowledge of different dietary guidelines and diets, behavior change patterns, and physical activity. Many Health Coaches, myself included, are also certified Personal Trainers, which makes their knowledge base even deeper.

As a result of their knowledge and the goal to be a partner in improving your health rather than prescribing specific diets or fitness plans, a session with a Health Coach is a reflective, forward-planning, collaborative experience. While the Health Coach provides the knowledge, prompts for tough questions, motivation, and accountability, the client provides the history of what has or has not worked for them, the commitment to change, and the realistic ways they can make their health a priority.

What is a session with a health coach like over fruit bowlIn each of the available one-on-one Health Coaching Plans, you commit to a weekly 30 minute phone call which serve as our sessions together. While the topics of those conversations vary from person to person, the general structure remains the same.

After we reflect on your struggles and successes with your health commitments that you made in the previous week’s call, we move to discussing how you can adapt, change, or continue the strategies you have put in place. This is where you decide if what you are doing is sustainable in the long run with the end goal always being to skip the crash diets, cleanses, and unreasonable gym hours in favor of a realistic and sustainable lifestyle that focuses on your health and gets you to your goals once and for all.

Knowing what is and is not working for you, and what commitments you want to make for the subsequent week, we will create an action plan to make those commitments as easy as possible to reach. These commitments and action plan steps are what you will be held accountable for in your weekly check in email and what we will begin discussing in our next call together.

Throughout our time together, whether on the phone or through email, you always have the opportunity to ask questions and make changes mid-week to any of your commitments based on how they are working for you. The point of having a Health Coach is to have a guide in creating a sustainably healthy life and that includes taking the overwhelm out of habit change.

In addition to a weekly phone call and weekly check in email, if you opt for 12 weeks of Health Coaching (which I highly recommend to ensure lasting change), you will always benefit from a:

  • Meal Planning Session – When trying to change a dietary habit, it can be difficult to know what to eat. Based on your goals, we will work together and meal plan an entire week of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. With the skills you learn from this session, you will have confidence to plan your subsequent weeks and not get distracted at the grocery store.
  • Pantry Clean Out – You have heard it said before that when you are trying to improve your nutrition, you need to go through your pantry. Have you ever actually done it? Together, we will work through the items in your pantry, discuss the nutrition labels, and how to best stock your shelves for a more nutritious eating lifestyle.
  • Nutrition Workbook – This workbook lays out specific nutrition information needed for women’s bodies in plain language, with action steps, and space for you to plan.
  • Mindset Journal (16 Week Program Only!) – Throughout your 16 weeks, you will have a bit of mindset homework three days a week. These questions are designed to have you reflect on the mentality you have surrounding food, fitness, and your goals. These powerful questions force you to be very honest with yourself about where you have come from and where you want to go.

Essentially, you will have everything you need to reach those health goals once and for all!
