This post is going to have some random pictures from the past week thrown in. If you follow me on Instagram, then you may have already seen a few of these, but I couldn’t think of what images to include with this topic.
When it comes to blogging, there is a ton of advice out there. Things you should have on your side bar, how your comments should run, which colors and fonts you should use, what your about page should look like, the list goes on and on. Truthfully, it can all be a bit overwhelming.
With all the things a blog “should” have and “should” look like, one could literally spend days simply tinkering with blog design and completely ignore posting actual content.
One of my favorite blogger couples is Bjork and Lindsay over at Pinch of Yum. I follow them because Lindsay is a teacher, they volunteered for a year at an orphanage in Cebu, they make amazing food, and once a month they post their blog income in dollars and cents along with advice. They are the ones who presented me with the best blog advice I ever heard.
Simple. Effective. Ringing in my head anytime I consider tinkering with my drop down menus, adjusting my categories, or overhauling my design.
If I don’t have quality content up on my blog first, then no one is going to visit my site no matter how beautifully edited my images are or well-organized my side bar is.
This post itself is an example of that advice in action. I was lacking in ideas to write about today and was going to make a drop down menu for the Tall Tales Tuesday page instead, but remembered that without content, this space is nothing.
Now, with this post going live, I am off to tinker.
RQ: What is the best piece of blog advice you ever received? Do you find yourself tinkering with things to avoid the “real” work (non-bloggers can answer that question too!)?

I just blog for fun and the blog friendships so I try not to get too bothered by much in the blog world – I know that sounds kind of lazy but it works for me.
Not lazy! It’s focused. You know what you want out of blogging and you make no excuses for it. That’s one of the many reasons I love reading your blog.
Great advice!!! 🙂
Thanks, Heather. It was all Pinch Of Yum that gave it to me.
I agree that this is fantastic advice!! It’s so easy to get caught up in worrying about having those other nit-picky details worked out, but I read blogs for the content too, not the design. Great reminder!
Thanks, Danica!
So true! Quality over quantity.
Exactly!
Best advice I received is to blog for you and don’t get caught up in the numbers. I write what I want to write, when I want to write it. If people enjoy my blog, great! If not, great! Just like in face-to-face interactions, sometimes you will click and connect, and sometimes you won’t. I always want blogging to be something I love and enjoy. I also want the people who I meet through blogging and friendships that I form to be genuine. 🙂
I feel saiefsitd after reading that one.
