This post is going to have some random pictures from the past week thrown in. If you follow me on Instagram, then you may have already seen a few of these, but I couldn’t think of what images to include with this topic.

When it comes to blogging, there is a ton of advice out there. Things you should have on your side bar, how your comments should run, which colors and fonts you should use, what your about page should look like, the list goes on and on. Truthfully, it can all be a bit overwhelming.

Hiking on Saturday. It was hot!

Hiking on Saturday. Gorgeous, hot day.

With all the things a blog “should” have and “should” look like, one could literally spend days simply tinkering with blog design and completely ignore posting actual content.

One of my favorite blogger couples is Bjork and Lindsay over at Pinch of Yum. I follow them because Lindsay is a teacher, they volunteered for a year at an orphanage in Cebu, they make amazing food, and once a month they post their blog income in dollars and cents along with advice. They are the ones who presented me with the best blog advice I ever heard.

Content first. Tinker later.

Simple. Effective. Ringing in my head anytime I consider tinkering with my drop down menus, adjusting my categories, or overhauling my design.

If I don’t have quality content up on my blog first, then no one is going to visit my site no matter how beautifully edited my images are or well-organized my side bar is.

My sisters and mom. Me, Kate, Mom, Margot, Jackie

This post itself is an example of that advice in action. I was lacking in ideas to write about today and was going to make a drop down menu for the Tall Tales Tuesday page instead, but remembered that without content, this space is nothing.

Dry Soda. This stuff was really tasty!

Now, with this post going live, I am off to tinker.

RQ: What is the best piece of blog advice you ever received? Do you find yourself tinkering with things to avoid the “real” work (non-bloggers can answer that question too!)?
