Over the weekend, part of Rob’s family drove down from Minnesota to spend some time in Denver. The visit originated when Rob decided he wanted to run the Colfax Marathon and his family hopped on board for the Colfax 5k.
Here are some of the highlights from all the shenanigans that made up our weekend:
Colfax 5k
The marathon didn’t pan out, since it’s on Sunday and Rob and I wanted to spend more time with the family rather than running, but 7 out of the 8 adults completed the 5k on Saturday morning!
For one of their first races, Rob’s parents and God parents did really well, walking the course at City Park in under an hour. Amanda, my sister-in-law, busted through the race only suffering slightly from an old injury. Rob, the sneak, beat me by 15 seconds. So proud of everyone!
(The official race time said 23:40, so I’m not really sure what happened here. Either way, it was under 25:00, which is what I was gunning for!)
Coors Brewery
What runner doesn’t enjoy a libation after a race? After we cleaned up and had a bite to eat, we all headed to the brewery.
I’ve been to the brewery twice before (once by myself on a solo road trip and once with Rob on a road trip), but this visit was the most fun. Standing around, sipping our samples, and slowing down for a minute was just what I needed after our busy morning.
Lookout Mountain Nature Center Hike
With one niece in a stroller, one niece with a fearless streak, and the family adapting to the altitude, the Lookout Mountain Nature Center loop hikes were perfect.
We spent about an hour and a half meandering along the trail, spotting a few animals, trying to push the stroller over some of the rocky terrain, and chatting.
It was a relaxing way to spend a beautiful Colorado afternoon outdoors.
Cards Against Humanity
Sunday night, we spent some time watching the girls play in the pool at our apartment complex and then moved to play Crimes Against Humanity around the fire pit.
Before I knew it, the game was in full swing, my abs were on fire from laughing so hard, and the sun had set. Amanda made the cards herself, printing them, gluing them to card stock, and enlisting friends to cut them out. I can’t believe all that hard work, but it was totally worth in my opinion!
After the game was put away, Amanda, John, Rob, and myself found ourselves standing by the pool just chatting until past 1!
The girls were passed out in the hotel room our complex offers to guests of residents. They were absolute troopers throughout the entire trip: happy, mellow, and so well behaved the whole weekend.
I can’t thank our family enough for making the 16-hour, one-way, trek from Minnesota. The weekend absolutely flew with all the activities, food, and laughs. Thankfully, Rob and I were able to take Monday off, but everything just felt too quiet once we said our goodbyes. Hopefully another trip (with us driving up this time) will happen soon!

Ha! Is it the same as Cards Against Humanity? That game is so fun, but I’m not sure I would play it with family! And great work on the 5K. The Colfax Marathon really brings everyone out to run in some way!
It is the same game. I messed up the name. Thank you for the correction!
Sounds like a super fun family visit!!
We haven’t played Cards Against Humanity but I keep hearing about it- gonna have to give it a try!
It’s a really fun game. YOu should try it, as long as you’re not too sensitive about inappropriate things.
What a super fun weekend!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Heather. It really was!
