When it comes to makeup, I am clueless. I have no idea how to put on eyeshadow and I am not sure what the purpose of lip liner is.
That being said, there are a few beauty, makeup-related items that I own and actually do know how to use.
Here are 9 must have beauty products that I think every low maintenance woman should own in order of importance/how often I use it:
1. Olay Complete Face Lotion with SPF 15 – This face lotion is used on the daily. I use about a dime-sized amount on my face and neck before I leave the house for the day. If I forget, I notice my skin feels drier and not as smooth. If you’re not using a daily face lotion with SPF, please do yourself a favor and get on that ASAP!
2. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm – I don’t wear lipstick, but I do put this chapstick on multiple times a day. It’s smooth, slightly minty, and doesn’t dry out my lips like some other lip balms tend to do.
3. Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion – Another daily product! I cover my body in this lotion right when I get out of the shower. Especially in winter and dry climates, this is a must have. I buy one of the economy-sized bottles and use it up within 4 months.
4. Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment – Though my acne days are over, I still get the occasional blemish. It takes just a drop of this cream and the offending spot starts to disappear. This little bottle lasts a seriously long time. Highly recommended!
5. Mary Kay Timewise Repair Eye Renewal Cream* – For mornings where I wake up looking tired with big heavy bags under my eyes, this cream becomes a lifesaver. I rub in just a bit and those bags are considerably less noticeable. That combined with a cup of coffee/tea and they practically disappear.
6. Cover Girl Professional Clear Mascara – When I want to be fancy, without being fancy, I swipe on some of this clear mascara. It elongates my lashes without making me look overdone. Definitely a good weapon to have in your arsenal.
7. Mary Kay Lash Love Waterproof Mascara* – When I want to be fancy, while being fancy, I swipe on some of this black mascara. It does a great job of not clumping my lashes, while giving me a more ready-for-a-hot-date look.
8. Garnier Fructis Style Surf Hair Hair Gel – For days when I actually style my hair, which are not often, this is my go-to product. Since I have short hair, a dime-sized amount is enough to scrunch and hold my strands. Plus I like the smell!
9. Almay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover Pads – After those rare fancy nights out, I don’t want to look like a raccoon the next day. These eye makeup remover pads are the best I have ever used. Most tend to leave an oily feeling on my face, but these ones don’t. Win.

I also use #2, the Burts Bees and #4 the Clean & Clear acne treatment. I’m not exactly low maintenance in this department but also definitely NOT high. I love my bare minerals makeup (I use the foundation and bronzer every day), it actually makes my skin feel healthier and it gives me a nice creamy complexion. I am very peaches and cream with eye shadow – literally, I use a cream shade first then a peachy shade to blend in. Barely there makeup is my jam. Alba night cream is also a favorite of mine!
I’ve heard of bare minerals before, but have never given it a try. What does night cream do?
Basically it keeps your skin hydrated and helps prevent wrinkles. At 25 people tell me I shouldn’t worry about that, but my mother has seriously amazing skin and she told me to start using night cream in my 20s, so I am following suit. Being that she’s been asked if her daughters are her sisters I’d say she’s doing something right, right?! 😉
This was a fun post! I love Garnier Fructis products!!!
They make some good stuff.
Thanks for this list! I use different products than you do, but mine tend to be along the same side as yours – simple/easy/fast/effective!
That’s exactly the idea behind it all for me!
I’m still trying to get into the habit of putting moisturizer with SPF on in the am on the regular. Let alone any of the other stuff, though i may have to try that timewise stuff because i always have a purple-i-ness under my eyes. Damn fair skin!
The timewise stuff is amazing. Laura can hook you up with some other under eye lotion and potions as well, I’m sure.
Awesome products. Until recently, I have been terrible about my skin. But no matter what I do-I keep it easy and fast. And my skin looks a whole lot better too!
Taking care of your skin is so important, even for us low maintenance ladies.
I’m super low-maintenance, too… mascara and foundation are my daily make-up. If I get fancy, I do lip gloss and eye shadow. But never lipstick or eye liner. That stuff scares me.:) Also, Burt’s Bees is the best!
