After Thursday’s errands and dinner, Friday morning I headed for a run around my parents’ neighborhood. This was my first run after living at altitude for the past few months and I felt like I could go forever! I can’t wait to run a race at a lower elevation.
The rest of the morning, my mom, Kate, Margot, and I finished up a few more errands. We checked on the florist, walked through the wedding venue, and prepared the house for the incoming party.
The bridal party was set to arrive at 1:30 for a quick rehearsal with our pastor. At 1, Rob texted to ask if anyone had picked up our marriage license. We had both forgotten! Margot, my MOH, and I raced over to city hall and made it back with two minutes to spare before everyone arrived. Phew, crisis averted!
Our rehearsal was relatively smooth. In the two times we ran through it, my Dad forgot his line both times. When the pastor asked, “Who gives this woman to this man,” my dad was to reply, “Her mother and I do.” My dad forgot, saying instead, “Her wife and I do.” We were all hysterical!
Around 2, the out of town guests started arriving at the house. My parents have a big lawn space overlooking the Long Island Sound with a little beach on the side for boats and beach glass collecting. It was the perfect spot for everyone to spend a few hours getting to know each other among the lawn games, tent and tables, and appetizer/dinner buffet. It was a fun, relaxed day in a beautiful setting.
During dinner, my sisters poured champagne and a number of people stood up for speeches. These included a toast by Rob’s dad, a tearful happiness by Rob’s sister, Amanda, the story of how we first met by my mom, and a hilarious poem by my sisters. We laughed. We cried. It was a great cap to the evening.
When the crowd of 40 had filtered back to the hotel, my family and I went over details for the next day, wedding day! Surprising, I actually got a decent amount of sleep and just had a feeling of being ready to marry my best friend.

Such a very gorgeous setting!!! Sounds like y’all had an incredible day prior to getting married – relaxing, fun and full of family and friends!!!
We didn’t do the whole rehearsal thing because Chris graduated pilot training the day before our wedding and that day was all about graduation, a huge formal dinner for the graduates and families.
That is a huge day for Chris! He must have been so overwhelmed with graduation and a wedding!
Love the new lay out!!!
Can’t wait to hear about the rest of the wedding!!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!
Our wedding rehearsal was simple – pizza and wings. We didn’t want to make a big fuss plus it was one of our cost cutting items!!! 🙂
Smart way to cut on costs. We had bbq food and it was delicious. I’m glad you like the layout. Your blog was one of my inspirations! Thank you!
We had a BBQ for our rehearsal dinner, too! We rehearsed at the church and then headed to Glenn’s 2nd cousin’s house for a great dinner with family and friends. Relaxed. I wore a skirt, but it was casual and I loved it 🙂
Sounds like a perfect pre-wedding evening!
It’s so much fun when it’s casual. Especially since everyone has to be all dressed up the next day.
So funny about your dad! I love silly wedding stories like that 🙂
Our rehearsal dinner was at a beautiful hotel in downtown Saratoga Springs. My mother-in-law handled it and kept most details a surprise. It was lovely!
We had friends and family coming from all over the world – from Hawaii to Germany! Luckily most were able to stay with family in town. It all worked out, even though it did stress me out a little bit during the planning process/setting up room blocks/finding places for various budgets.
That’s awesome you got a good nights sleep! I did not…I can never sleep when I am nervous or excited, let alone both.
Saratoga Springs is gorgeous. We used to race there for cross country. I am impressed at how far your guests traveled. That is love!
