Since Rob and I told my everyone that we are engaged, we have been non-stop wedding planning. Within 10 days, we have done the following:
- picked a venue
- decided the menu
- hired a photographer
- hired a band
- said yes to the dress
- altered the dress
- cake tasted
- started pre-cana (and will finish by Thursday)
- sent save the dates
- ordered invitations
- registered at 3 stores
Phew! I think all teachers should wedding plan in the summer. It makes it easy when a job isn’t getting in the way.
Because we have been on the all-wedding channel all the time, I thought it would be nice to take a break for a few hours and actually convinced my parents to run a 4.4 mile Father’s Day fun run in my parents’ town.
It was the perfect remedy. We walked .5 miles to the start, paid $10, and waited about 20 minutes for the start.
My parents have never raced before, so they were nervous/excited. My dad also couldn’t stop making jokes about how he would come in last (which he did). It was a small community race, maybe about 100 people. My parents usually walk about 5 miles every other day, so getting moving wasn’t an issue.
After Rob and I finished (I ran it in 35:29!…for only have run outside twice since being home, I am thrilled), we waited for my parents to come into the finish. We finally spotted them and they were running! They looked like they were having such a good time!
My dad pretended to climb into the EMT truck waiting on the street, while my mom pumped it to the finish. She won first in her age group!
It was the perfect wedding talk distraction and my parents were riding the race high all day. Besides some soreness on my mom’s part, they have both said the race really made them think about what they can do physically. My dad is eating better and my mom wants to do a Couch to 5k! I am so proud of them!

It was a really fun morning. Glad it made you smile.
That is so neat, my parents would never run a race! How cool that your parents did and your mom rocked it! 🙂
She was awesome! She totally had the racing high for the rest of the day.
You are busy girl!!!

I was so surprised/proud of them!
Yay for your parents!
Great job getting all of that planning done, too.
My dad and I walked in 3-4 Father’s Day 5Ks before I moved. 🙂
