Last year at this time, Rob and I were packing up our separate apartments, selling all our furniture, and researching countries we wanted to visit while teaching in Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, we are analyzing what clothes we can throw out, what souvenirs we want to buy, and tying up loose ends at work.
That’s right. We are coming home!
Well not home-home, but state-side. On June 7, we will be landing in New York to visit my family, then flying off to Minnesota to visit Rob’s, and then we’re heading to Denver. We have always wanted to live there and this is the perfect time to make the move.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am. It has been a fun and exciting year filled with travel and new cultures that I wouldn’t trade. Now it’s time to enjoy the last two months here and look forward to the next adventure.
The biggest thing I’m excited for besides family, friends, and food? Trail runs, hikes, and general outdoorsy-ness. Can’t wait for all that fresh air.

I think I would love to live abroad. A couple years ago there was an opportunity to teach in London but I was too chicken to actually apply for it and my husband (my boyfriend at the time) said he didn’t want to live there. I would lived there for a year by myself but I was so young and naive. I even tried to bribe him by telling him I would pay for everything 🙂
Congrats on the move! You must be so excited! I can’t wait to hear about your new adventures in CO!
My sister lives in London and loves it. She’s been there for about five years now. The best part about airplanes is that you can visit absolutely anywhere and then come back to your cozy home. It’s probably good you didn’t pay for everything, though. London is expensive.
You have such a cool experience! I would definitely love to live abroad for a year, not being able to see family would be a bummer though. What are you going to miss most about Vietnam?? Do you think you’ll ever travel back to visit?
The family part is definitely hard. I’m used to seeing them every 4-5 months, but a full year is just too long. Miss most…hmm…probably how cheap everything is and the really easy travel to other countries. I probably won’t come back to South East Asia any time soon, but never say never.
Denver is beautiful!!! That’s a great stop. Congrats!!!
Thanks, Gail! I’ve only driven through once or twice and stopped for some hikes in the Rockies. Can’t wait to be in the shadow of the mountains.
Wow, Brooke! This is so exciting! For some reason, I thought you were going to be in Vietnam for a long time – if not permanently. There are a few places where people move to, and they just love it. Love it and never want to leave. Denver is one of them. And fresh air! Will you have to adjust to the altitude? I wish you a safe trip and absurd happiness once you are settled into your new home. 🙂
The original plan was to be here for two years, but this city really isn’t for me. Some people move here and absolutely adore it. I’m hoping to have that with Denver. Since HCMC is at sea level, there is definitely going to be some altitude adjustment going on.
I am so incredibly happy for you! You’re coming home! 🙂
You’re across the world right now and soon you’ll be across just a couple of states!
I’m sure you’re just so happy 🙂
I really appreciate your excitement. I am absolutely thrilled! I am just trying to enjoy the last few weeks here and not day dream constantly about the US.
I missed this somehow, but yay! What an amazing experience you had. So cool you can say ‘Remember that year we lived in Vietnam?’ Ah! have you found somewhere to live yet?
Thanks, Caitlyn! I am really excited. We haven’t found a place to live yet, nor jobs. We are waiting to see where our jobs are before we pick an apartment location.
