The trip to South Korea and Japan was spectacular. Rob and I have spent the weekend sorting through our combined 2,000+ pictures. Whew!
Since we spent all of our time in cities, there was a ton of walking going on. We probably averaged 4 miles of walking per day so there was no sort of vacation workouts going on. The weekend is devoted to resting my popping hips and knee twinge.
The food in Korea and Japan was delicious. Since Vietnamese food doesn’t really excite me, I was more than happy to try out my fair share of sushi, bibimbop, and dumplings. My stomach had some adjusting to do after the first two days as I had a massive stomach ache for a full day. I think I over did it in my excitement.
Rob, usually the hungry one in our group, was perfectly content to skip lunch and continue our blistering sight-seeing pace. By three o’clock, I was typically dragging and adamantly trying to find a place to eat.
Once my stomach was back on track, and I got Rob to sit down, the tasty eats continued.
Breakfast
Hot chocolate, egg salad croissant, onion-ham flat bread, more hot chocolate (coffee for Rob).
Dinners in Korea
Korean BBQ (pork).
Dak Galbi (pork, cabbage, noodles).
Bibimbop (rice, corn, chicken, onions, spices). Bibimbop was definitely my favorite of the Korean dishes. It was warm and comforting and didn’t have cabbage, which was a little rough to digest.
Dinners in Japan
Fried pork, eggs, rice, miso soup.
Fried pork over rice.
Dumplings.
Tempura and soba noodles.
Bread and cheese, strawberries, and take away sushi.
Libations
Beers over-looking Kyoto.
Sake at the grocery store. We didn’t actually have any, but I thought the shelf was beautiful.
Whiskey, Asahi beer, and the Japanese version of a Mike’s Hard Lemonade. This was shared with Rob.
Tomorrow is back to reality with a full schedule of Reading Interventions and PB+J lunches. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
