On Sunday, Rob and I headed to the gym so he could lift and I could do a short shake out run after our Saturday long run. I was on the treadmill loping along at a slight incline (2.0 I think), when BAM! My right knee came up and smacked into the “hang-on-for-dear-life” handles.

It hurt enough to make me say a curse word or two in my head, but I soon forgot about it. Well…two days later, it’s a little hard to ignore.

The strange thing is, this is the same knee I injured the same number of weeks out from the Mui Ne Half Marathon in September after I crashed our motorbike. What does my right knee have against me?

I have seen videos of people doing stupid things on treadmills before (really people?) and getting hurt, but I have never had a treadmill injury myself. Sure, I’ve lost my balance while looking around or watching a show like Deadliest Catch (NOT recommended as a condusive-to-treadmill-running show because of rolling wave shots), but I’ve never actually fallen off.

Anyway, now that I’ve scared you off the treadmill, I wanted to share a treadmill workout with you. I typically like to do high intensity training (HIT) that combines both speed and incline. HITs are a quick (and tiring) way to get your heart rate up and some serious calories burned.

The idea with Devine Incline is to slowly increase your speed while you run all the incline levels from 1 to 10 in one minute bursts. It will definitely get you sweating!
