These 10 non candy Easter egg filler ideas are a hit for toddlers, for girls, and for boys. Skip the Easter egg candy and opt for these inexpensive toys instead.
With the amount of time we spend playing hide and seek, it is no wonder that our three year old loves egg hunts.
Last Easter, we spent a full month and a half regularly hiding plastic eggs around the house for her to find even though the eggs were empty. It was Zoey’s number one requested activity.

Rob and I both love a true egg hunt, not the fill a field with eggs and make a mad grab for as many as you can versions. As a result, we have made a massive home egg hunt part of our yearly Easter tradition. I am not sure if it is more fun to hide the eggs, or to watch Zoey find them.

This will be William’s first year participating in an egg hunt and I just know he is going to love it. Anything that is ball shaped is a win in his book. Combine that with dropping objects into containers and we have hours of entertainment on our hands.
Instead of filling Easter eggs with candy, we opt to load them with small toys. Along with keeping our kids mostly screen free, we also limit the amount of added sugars they eat and avoid candy. We know that little toys and other items will get us more play time miles and engagement than jelly beans and chocolate bunnies.
I got all of these items at Dollar Tree. Even though there were repeats of the same item in a number of eggs, Zoey did not mind at all as it added an element of organizing and categorizing that she really enjoys.
Clearly she is her father’s daughter.

With William being added into the egg hunt mix this year, I am including some items that I know he would like also. If you want to fill Easter eggs for boys that are not candy, these are good options for them as well.
You can fill a good amount of easter eggs without buying candy for about $10. We got our plastic eggs from the thrift store for a few dollars, but be sure to check their early because they do run out.

Stickers
I opt for ones that you can easily cut up into smaller sizes to fit into an egg. We go through stickers really fast, so I go for the inexpensive ones, but you could opt for the puffy stickers if your child likes to use them more sparingly.
Tattoos
It must have been at a community event almost a year ago that Zoey got her first tattoo and absolutely loved it. Since then, we have been on the tattoo train and she probably puts one on every few weeks.
She takes picking out her tattoo very seriously and it is a whole production to put it on complete with loud counting to 20 while we wait for the warm water to set. Snag a whole bunch to keep on hand after you fill the eggs.
Mini Animals
Since Zoey is into little toys, tiny animals or dolls are perfect for her and they fit inside Easter eggs easily.
William is absolutely obsessed with animals and regularly walks around barking like a dog or mooing like a cow. He adores his little animal figurines , so adding to his collection is a no brainer.
These ones are a good size to fit inside an Easter egg, but if you want to get some for an Easter basket, these are a decent size.

Coins
Sure, the kids have no sense of money yet, but they love to use coins in their play kitchen. That is actually where all our spare change ends up. Then it ends up in the salad spinner. Then it ends up in the play kitchen. Then it is all over the floor. It’s a process.
William just likes to shake Easter eggs with the coins in them, so a few coins in an egg is a double win for him.
Stamps
Stamps are another favorite around here and an item we go through quickly. You can buy a whole pack of them at the dollar store and fill a few eggs pretty quickly.
Jewelry
Our little girl is getting more and more girly by the day. Rings, bracelets, and beaded necklaces are the perfect items for her Easter eggs. Bonus that she can put her loot in her jewelry box after opening the eggs.
William also enjoys the beaded necklaces to “cook” with in the play kitchen, to wear, and to just shake.

Hair Bows & Clips
Hair bows and hair clips are another winner for Zoey as she regularly likes to do her own hair, which consists of no less than three bows and clips piled on the top of her head.
Needless to say, we need to keep a stash in her bathroom so she is always ready for a serious hairdo.
Toy Cars
Depending on the size of your eggs, you could fit a toy car inside. William loves any type of car or train, so these are right up his ally.
Gems
I pulled out these gems during a flower planting sensory bin activity and both Zoey and William picked them out to play with. The rest of the sensory bin was left behind in favor of these shiny, fake jewels. A few Easter eggs with these in them will be a hit for both kids.
I cannot find the exact ones we have, but these ones would be a serious hit.
A word of warning here: William is past the stage of putting everything in his mouth. If your toddler is still tasting everything, avoid these as they are definitely a choking hazard. I keep a close eye on William when we have these out just to be sure he does not forget that they are not food.

Puzzle Pieces
While I have not tried this one myself, I did see this post from Make the Best of Everything and thought it was genius for our puzzle loving girl. This would be super simple to do with a puzzle you already have or a new one you can get for cheap at the dollar store.
If you have more than one kid doing a hunt, I would mark the eggs with a puzzle piece in some way so that those eggs stand out for what your child needs to be looking for.
The amount of Easter eggs you should fill is really up to you and your child. We filled about 25 eggs for Zoey and she was able to keep her concentration while hunting all of them down (over and over again).
The bottom line is have fun with it! Let your kids explore, hunt, and play with their new loot while avoiding the sugar high.
