Happy Happy Friday!
It’s been a super busy week at work with planning for 4 separate classes, helping teachers in their classrooms, and the start of cross country. The weekend is definitely very welcome!
For a something a bit different on this Virtual Happy Hour Friday, I thought I’d answer some get to know me questions I’ve seen floating around the blog world. Feel free to play along in the comments!
1. What’s your whole name? – Brooke Beryl Selb (It’s not officially Selb yet, but I’m in the process!)
2. Are you named after anyone? – Beryl was my grandmother’s middle name.
3. Do you have any siblings? – 3 sisters!
4. Where did you grow up? – The Suburbs of New York and Connecticut. Mostly New Canaan, CT though. We moved there when I was in 4th grade.
5. What activities did you do in high school? – Cross country, indoor & outdoor track. That was about it! I tried out for the school play once, but they soon found out that I can’t carry a tune.
6. Where did you go to college? – Ithaca College in upstate New York for my undergrad and Northern Arizona University for my masters.
7. What activities did you do in college? – More cross country, indoor & outdoor track. Are you sensing a theme here? I was also briefly a part of the French club.
8. What did you study in college? – English and Education for undergrad. Then Secondary Education and Reading for my masters.
9. What was your first job out of college? – While I searched for a teaching job for a few months from my parents’ house, I worked at the Aquarium selling admissions and imax tickets. It was actually a ton of fun!
10. What kind of music do you like? – Mostly country, rock (like Matchbox Twenty), and indie/alternative (Ani DiFranco).
11. What’s one hobby that you’d like to take up? – Not really sure. Something with being outside more. Not that I want to take it up, because I already do it, but I want to do more hiking and camping.
12. What did you think you wanted to be when you grew up? – A teacher! My parents have stories about me lining up my stuffed animals and using a little chalkboard easel we had to teach them the ABC’s.
13. What’s the biggest project on your to-do list right now? – The blog. Seriously, there is so much to learn, implement, and keep up with when it comes to blogging. It’s not as simple as just putting up a post. I’m trying to figure out the balance and how to make it all more lucrative.
14. Do you have any irrational fears? – Zombie Apocalypse. I’m not kidding. I probably have a nightmare a month about that actually happening. I should probably watch less Doomsday Preppers.
15. Have you ever traveled outside the country? If so, where and when? – Absolutely! Besides living in Vietnam for a year and traveling all over Southeast Asia, Rob and I went to Ireland and London for our Honeymoon. I’ve traveled a lot more with my family, but those are the most recent places. Check out the Travel page for more travel.
16. When’s your next vacation and where are you going? – We don’t have one planned right now. Germany and Alaska are at the very top of the list, but the travel date is still TBD.
17. Do you speak any other languages? – Sadly, no. I was getting pretty good at French for a while. I took AP French in high school and advanced a few classes in college, but I never kept up with it. I would love to study it again though…and then go to Paris to practice.
18. What’s one talent that you wish you had? – Artistic anything. Everyone in my family can draw, paint, or create really beautiful things. That seemed to skip me.
19. What’s something that you wished you did more of? – Read the bible, slowed down, and didn’t always think of the next thing that needed to get done or was coming up. I feel like it’s go go go all the time, especially now that school has started and cross country begins Monday.
20. If you weren’t in your current job, what would you be doing? – I would love to have a couple different things. Blogging, health coaching, freelance writing, coaching, etc. I know people make a living doing a number of different things, and I’m working on making that happen for me. We’ll see how it goes!
RQ: What job would you want? What’s one hobby you wish you had? What’s the biggest project on your to do list?
