Monkeys. These cute animals that can swing from trees, expertly peel a banana, and have been know to throw feces from time to time.

But we’re not talking about the docile zoo version of monkeys today. We are talking about the wild monkeys of Southeast Asia.

The monkeys that stare at you from above as you hike a trail, making you nervous as you’re unsure of their intentions.

Monkey in the trees

The monkeys that come down to the beach and stand right next to you, or climb you, expecting you to give them something to eat.

The monkeys that even the locals treat like rats and shoo away when they come to near a shrine in an attempt to steal the offering.

Monkey watching everyone climb the stairs

The monkeys that roam the stairs of a crowded temple, climb into purses and bags to steal water bottles and chips, and then tear them open for a drink or a bite.

Malaysian Temple - Where Monkey's are King

The monkeys that tourists would pet. And then wonder why they got scratched.

The monkeys Rob and I stay away from.
