This morning started with snow!
On my way to work, there was the sleet/rain/snow combination happening and it shortly turned into full on giant snowflake clumps.
As someone who hasn’t seen snow, or had real seasons, in 5 years, today was quite the surprise!
Just as I was looking forward to fall, winter hit.
I’ve always loved the first snow. In my memory it happens at night and has a quiet magic. I also find waking up to the sound of the snow plow clearing the driveway and roads to be extremely comforting and cozy.
My college was in upstate New York and we had lake effect snow. It was cold, wet, and gray for at least 4 months straight. I am seriously looking forward to the sunny days of Denver!
RQ: Do you like the first snow? When does the first snow usually happen where you live (if it does)?

I detest snow with every fiber of my being – I get very cranky when it snows. And, to me a snow day means a day that I don’t have to leave the house for any reason!!! I’m hoping that we have a light winter this year.
It’s the perfect excuse to stay home and get stuff done.
We’ve had quite a lot of snow the last few weeks here in Somerset West (WC, South Africa). Even on one of the lower mountains which I’ve hiked up before!
Is that normal for your area?
No! 🙂
I have to agree…snow has a quiet magic.
I’m from Upstate NY as well……winter is always a dreaded season. We hope and pray for a good winter everywhere!
I know the feeling!
You won’t have lake effect snow, but you will have mountain snow! I think they put chains on tires in Denver, yes? 😉
I wasn’t around WordPress much over the summer, but hope you’ve settled in nicely and are enjoying your new home!
Yes, they do put on tire chains in some areas around here. I might have to invest.
