Yes. My weekend in New York was so epic that it needs a two part blog post.
The best way to explain what happened this past weekend, is to go day by day. Hold on to your keyboards, blog friends.
Thursday
- Left work an hour early to head to the airport. I just made it on time due to road closures from all the flooding.
- Landed in NY at midnight to my Dad waiting! We chatted on the hour drive home and he sat up with me while I ate some leftovers.
- Crashed around 2am.
Friday
- Was too excited to sleep, so was up at 7.
- Major hugs and excited chatting with Kate, my oldest sister, and Jackie, my older sister, whom I had not seen in 15 months.
- Went to the flower warehouse to pick out what we wanted for the wedding shower centerpieces.
- Got my wedding hairdo tested at the salon with Kate, Jackie, and Mom. Their input was much needed and appreciated!
- Arranged the wedding shower centerpieces. This was Jackie’s handi work. I kept her company.
- Nana arrived!
- Tea time and catch up chatting.
- Walk around town with everyone. We got caught in the rain, but enjoyed a gorgeous, full rainbow for our efforts!
- Margot, my little sister, arrived! (Margot lives in NYC now and couldn’t get away till dinner time.)
- Wine tasting for the wedding wine. Woot!
- Dinner at home. Margot cracked us all up with tales of her CPR class.
- Shared a room with Margot, stayed up chatting for a bit.
Saturday
- Woke up too excited to sleep, again, at 7.
- Set up the tables, tent, and decorations for the shower. (Lies. I did nothing. Kate, Jackie, Margot, Mom, and Dad were decorating machines.)
- Nice chat with Nana over breakfast while sisters did super secret things related to the next 18 hours.
- Caterer man, Chuck, arrived.
- Sisters and I ran upstairs to get dressed. There was much trying on of multiple outfits, putting on makeup, and changing of underwear. (Note to self: Do not only pack hot pink or bright blue undies when planning to wear a white dress.)
- First guests arrive!
- Presents, hugs, catching up all pile up.
- Mimosas!
- Seriously delicious lunch of chicken and peppers, apple and walnut salad, wild rice, assorted bread, mini desserts, and more mimosas.
- Shower Game. My sisters emailed Rob Newlywed Game questions and I had to answer the same ones at the shower. Luckily, our answers pretty much matched. Some of the answers got a little rowdy, but it was so fun! It was so thoughtful of Kate, Jackie, and Margot to have Rob be part of it.
- Presents! I am just so blessed by all the generosity. I am honestly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love.
- General merriment
- Clean up. Many hands lighten the load. We had everything put away and tidied in no time.
- Trying to pack as many presents as possible into a suitcase to bring to Denver.
- Rush around house packing and collecting things.
- Dad drove us to the train to head to NYC for a night of bachelorette debauchery.
I can’t express enough how thankful, lucky, blessed I feel to have my family and our friends show such love to Rob and I. My feelings overwhelmed me during the shower as I opened one extremely special present from my grandma. I just lost it. We’re talking uncontrollable tears for a solid 3 minutes. This from the girl who very rarely cries. I am just seriously feeling the love over here.
And with that, I leave you until Epicness Part 2 – The Bachelorette Party to End All Bachelorette Parties – is posted tomorrow.

This filled me with joy! I remember my bridal shower and seriously, the feeling of all the generosity is amazing. You realize just how excited other people are about you marrying the love of your life!
I can’t not wait to hear about the Bach. Party!!!!!
What did your grandma give you if you don’t mind me asking? I love when people cry over gifts!!! 🙂
It really is amazing how excited everyone is. My grandma had a silver platter engraved with my grandfather’s favorite saying (he passed away a few years ago). It was just so unexpected and so meaningful!
What thoughtful gift!!! That sounds amazing and so appropriate. Glad you had such a wonderful time!
I loved reading this!!! So obvious how much love is in your family!!!
And, the pictures are incredible!!! Glad the shower was epic – can’t wait to read all about the bachelorette party!!
It was quite a day!
It sounds like a wonderful bridal shower! I still remember mine vividly…I was so shocked by everything my friends and family did for me. Also, I love mimosas, delish. And I love your white dress, so cute! Glad you had such a great day 🙂
The generosity just kills me. So loving.
Wow-this is quite an epic wedding shower weekend! My family is planning one for me at the end of Oct and I am trying so hard to keep it low-key. THis looks beautiful and elegant and fun. I guess it helps to have a lot of sisters!
It absolutely helps to have a lot of sisters! I am all about the low-key and I have to say they did a great job!
