Well, today is a little disappointing, but probably deserved after my gloating.
Yesterday, I headed to the gym in my new Asics and heel inserts and hit the treadmill for 35 minutes of speed work. The Asics I use have a stability bar to stop me from overpronating. My heel cup inserts are to raise my heel to prevent my achilles tendonitis from acting up. (Clearly Rob should trade me in.)
By minute 29, the outside of my left foot was in some serious pain. I spent the rest of last night and all of today limping around unable to put pressure on the outside of my foot.
After some serious thought in the shower (tmi?), I realized the culprit. New shoes + new inserts = too much breaking in at once and pain. Basically, the things I use to help me run correctly were making me underpronate.
I’ve had this pain before and it usually dissipates if I stay off my feet for about a week. The sad part is I have been working on upping my mileage and speed work in the hopes of running another half in the next few months. Unfortunately, this injury will set me back a little bit. C’est la vie.
Before the gimp-making pain, my run was pretty kick-ass. It looked like this:
My sprint times were: 1 mile in 7:30, .75 in 5:28, .50 in 3:40, and .25 in 1:45. I was feeling pretty tough!

I have this same problem. I wear any new running shoes around the hosue for a cuople hours a day for a few weeks before I actually wear them for a workout or i am in the same boat as you are now.
It’s nice to know I’m not alone, but I feel bad for you. No one should have to go through this much to break in sneakers.
Your run rocked girl! Whoop!!!
Hopefully your feet heal quickly and you will be running like a star in no time!!!
Thanks, Heather!
