Our road trip to Minnesota happened so quickly because Rob and I had to be there bright and early on Saturday for the Warrior Dash.

Rob’s sister, Amanda, set us up with tickets. This was our first time, but Amanda’s third time! Talk about tough.

I was pretty nervous about the obstacles since I hate jumping off of things. For example, cliff jumping into water. I’ve done it. I get it. I don’t need to do it again.

Thankfully, all the obstacles were really fun and none of them involved death-defying leaps.

Dash obstacles

After three days in the car, it felt amazing to get out and move. Rob and I ended up starting about 15 minutes after Amanda and some friends, so we kicked our butts running up the first ski hill trying to catch them.

Still clean coming up the first hill.

I honestly felt like I was floating on air the whole time, I was so happy. Living in Vietnam and having no access to trails, athletic events, or a feeling of community really took a toll on me. Running up those ski hills, challenging myself over the obstacles, and bonding over this event reminded me why I love to do these things and how much I missed them.

If you have never done the Warrior Dash, or some other mud run, before, I highly recommend it. It’s tough, but I was literally grinning ear to ear the entire time. Even when they made us jump over fire.

Still smiling. What's wrong with me? (Check out those high jump skills)

Still smiling. What’s wrong with me? I love Rob’s face. He said his knee gave out just before he had to jump. (Check out my high jump skills.)

Plus, the medal is a beer opener. Win.
