A few weeks ago, Rob and I hit up the bulk bins at Sprouts and bought about 2 pounds of their trail mix on sale.
Well, we devoured the stash in about two weeks. Instead of buying trail mix from their bulk bin again (not on sale), I decided to make my own. I usually make trail mix when Rob and I are going camping and hiking, but I rarely ate it during a regular day.
That has all changed. I pack a little tupperware of trail mix for work and find that having a handful or two between classes keeps me energized and curbs my hunger until lunch. This is great since lunch isn’t until noon and my first class is at 7:15. Five hours is a long time without a snack!
My mixture for this Energy Boosting Trail Mix is pretty simple:
Easiest recipe in the world: mix all the ingredients together.
I like to have a ratio of more nuts and raisins to chocolate. My perfect bit is a cashew, an almond, about 3 raisins, and one m&m. (Very particular, I know.)
Store the trail mix in an airtight container and try to stop yourself from housing it in a day or two flat.
Best thing about trail mix: versatility. Other items you could add:
- M&M variety: This one has regular and pretzel.
- Craisins
- Other dried fruits chopped into small pieces
- Chocolate / White chocolate chips
- Butterscotch / Caramel chips
RQ: How do you keep your energy up throughout the day? If you’re a trail mixer, what is your favorite bite?

I love dried ginger in my trail mix! And salty cashews. Best combination ever. ANd M&Ms are a must, of course 🙂
oooh. Dried ginger. I will have to try that!
