Caitlyn over at City & the Cubicle is hosting a fun link-up where bloggers share a day in their life. I’ve seen these types of posts around before and have always wanted to do one. Now I have a reason!
Here was what my day was like this past Monday:
5:27 – Alarm goes off just as the sun comes up. It rises every day at 5:30.
5:27-5:37 – Snooze button gets hit twice.
5:37 – Realize how uncomfortable the rock hard Vietnamese styled mattresses are and get up.
5:40-6:30 – Check email, read blogs, slowly wake up. I am not a coffee drinker, so I usually am still getting into the swing of being awake by the time Rob is on his second cup of coffee and doing dishes with all his energy (score for me!).
6:30-7:00 – Get dressed for work and pack lunch.
7:00-7:10 – Hop on the motorbike and head to work.
7:15 – Eat breakfast of eggs, bread, and banana at work. I am totally sick of this meal, but it is free, so I can’t complain too much.
7:30-8:45 – Plan lessons, prepare materials, and chat with coworkers at my computer station in the office. We all work in a central office since we share classrooms.
8:45-8:55 – Prepare classroom. This includes writing the agenda on the board while ignoring the carvings and setting up my desk. ( It won’t be this organized in about thirty minutes.)
8:55-9:30 – ELD testing group.
9:30-10:15 – Grade some essays from my two Literature classes.
10:15-11:25 – Tenth grade Literature class. They are in the middle of a group research project.
11:25-12:45 – Lunch. The lunch break is long here because the Vietnamese nap in the middle of the day.
12:45-1:30 – More ELD testing.
1:30-2:15 – Work on the elementary summer school remedial reading program curriculum.
2:15-3:00 – More ELD testing.
3:00-3:25 – Continue working on the summer school curriculum.
3:25-4:00 – Chat with coworkers in the office and try to get some more work done, but usually don’t because everyone is done teaching and blowing off steam from the day.
4:00-4:25 – Head home for a quick snack and to change into gym clothes.
4:25-4:40 – Motorbike to the gym. Pray we don’t get accident. I don’t drive here, so I really just hold onto Rob for dear life most of the time.
4:40-6:00 – Pump iron.
6:15-6:45 – Relax on the couch and think about making dinner.
6:45-7:30 – Make and eat dinner. We usually eat in front of the TV. (I know, I know.)
7:30-8:30 – Read blogs, check Facebook, plan our next trip (to Thailand!).
8:30 – Get ready for bed and lay down to read.
8:45 – 9:30 – Pass out at some point with my kindle still on.
There you have it. Since I work as the Curriculum Coordinator, Reading Specialist, and a Literature Teacher, my school days are pretty different, which I love.

I love it! I honestly didn’t even know you were teaching over there! How do you like it? Did you teach much in the US before teaching abroad? Are there differences/similarities?
Free breakfast = delicious breakfast (even if it is NOT delicious!)
I taught in inner-city Phoenix for 4 years, so teaching at a private school is a major difference. Behavior is better here, but it’s nice to know that kids are just kids in every country.
What a fun post! This is a great way to get to know someone 🙂
It really is. I had a lot of fun making it.
