Apart from climbing 1,227 stairs to a cave and going for a completely flat bicycle ride around a village, there was not much in the way of working out during our 3-week backpack trip through Vietnam.
I attempted to stick to the 20 day mini-workouts I came up with, but more often than not found myself relaxing on the few mornings we were able to sleep in slightly before boarding a plane, bus, train, or boat to the next destination.
Luckily, Vietnamese food is not at all fatty, so though I wasn’t working out and burning lots of calories, I didn’t put on any weight. In fact, I felt like I lost weight. (I am going on feeling here since I don’t weigh myself. I don’t see the point in it, you feel how you feel no matter what the scale says.)
We took yesterday, our first day back, to rest and relax. Today, we hit the gym and hit it hard. I wasn’t feeling as strong as I normally do, so I wanted to make sure I got in some weights and strength training. I started with 20 minutes on the treadmill and then completed this 1,000 rep workout. (Thanks Haley for the idea!)
I was definitely struggling through this workout, but managed to finish it quite sweaty. I like how it kept me moving between arms, legs, cardio, and core moves so that I didn’t have time to get bored and want to quit. And don’t worry, all the beer cans in the image are from a group of college-aged South Africans who left the signs of their good night behind for the rest of the guests to find in the morning.
