Any time I talk with a potential new Health Coaching client, I always get the question: “What would we do during our weekly phone calls?”
Though the details of our conversations is hard to answer because Health Coaching is so specified to individual clients, there is a form that all subsequent coaching calls take. What I’m outlining below is the format of our calls once we have determined your goals and needs. You can get a head start on your goals by downloading your free 7 Day Goal Setting Journal.
To start, I will ask you to tell me about your week. With coaching calls being once a week for 15-20 minutes, we spend a bit of time reviewing what worked well for you and where you may have struggled over the past seven days. It’s an opportunity for you to reflect on your progress and where you may need more support.
Embedded in that week review is a conversation surrounding how you want to adapt, change, or continue the strategies you have put in place. This is where you decide if what you are doing is sustainable in the long run. My goal is for you to develop healthy habits for your life and your lifestyle: no crash diets, no cleanses, no working out in the gym for 2+ hours (unless of course you’re distance running training and it’s a long run day).
Based on our discussion up until this point, we will work together to set an action plan for the rest of the week. I will encourage you to try a few things, you will present a few options, and through strategic and reflective questioning, we will develop a solid course of action for you to implement for the week. This is the point in our call where you are committing to action. This is not just something we talk about with no follow through.
After we create your action plan, you will be able to ask any lingering questions. This can include things you have heard or seen, are considering, or want me to bring up with you at a later date.
To end our conversation, I will run through a quick review of our conversation and what you have committed to for the week. This ensures we are both on the same page for the week and allows any last minute changes to your action plan.
The last piece of our call is scheduling a time for our next conversation. I take notes during each call to ensure I do not miss anything and know exactly where we left off and where we plan to go.
There you have it! That is the structure of our phone calls.
Within 24 hours of our call, I will send you a follow up email outlining what we discussed, what your goals and strategies are for the week, and include any resources or worksheets you might need. In between our calls, we have unlimited email access, and daily accountability, where I check in with a pointed question to be sure you are following through with your commitments to your health.
