Oh, hey. So, about those two weeks I fell off the face of the blog-world? Sorry about that. Things should be back to normal around here. Let me catch you up on what’s been occupying my time.
Cross Country – The team’s last meet is this Thursday! Woot! I get a kick out of coaching, and many times it’s the highlight of my work day, but dang, does it take up a lot of time. One of my athletes has a chance to qualify for the state meet, but he is going to have run his heart out. No pressure. No pressure at all.
Marathon Training – I officially registered for the Rock n Roll Denver Marathon last week and have a slight ache in stomach as a result. The race is THIS Sunday! My training has been decent, but I always mess up the tapering portion. I don’t know how to slow down and rest all that well. I’ll have a post up later this week (promise!) with my A-D marathon goals.
One Year Anniversary – This past Sunday was Rob’s and my one year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe how quickly this year went! We drove up to Grand Lake on Friday night and spent the weekend hiking and utilizing a hotel deal I found on Groupon.
Hiking – While in Grand Lake, we hiked 11 miles through the yellow aspens to Lone Pine Lake. It was a beautiful walk and an even more beautiful spot to rest our legs. Fall in Colorado is fast, but absolutely breathtaking.
Gone Girl – Last Friday, a couple of women in my book club and I went to see Gone Girl, which we had read over the summer. I thought they did a superb job on the movie and really stayed true to the book. If you’ve read it, definitely go see it, but be forewarned that there is a pretty graphic scene (sexual and gory) when Desi dies.
Rant: One of the trailers for Gone Girl was 50 Shades of Grey. I have zero interest in reading the book and was extremely uncomfortable just watching the trailer. I am slightly outraged it is being turned into a mainstream movie since I know people who hid the book cover to read it, but here it is on display. What is this teaching my students? Rant Over – this might warrant a full post all its own.
Fall Break – This week is my fall break and I am so thankful to have the time to breathe personal train, catch up on blogging, finish a few books, do some grading, and rest up for the marathon.
There you have it! My life in the past two weeks in a nutshell.
RQ: Tell me something from your past two weeks! 50 Shades as a movie: yay or nay?

I was going to say wow-you have a full week for fall break, but then I remembered your school is trying to be year round, so I guess those breaks are well deserved. Good luck on Sunday! I hope to see you!
I love the year round schedule. It really helps the teachers and students recharge without forgetting everything!
So exciting that you just signed up for the marathon – I’m more of a last minute person! Good luck resting this week!!
Huge good luck to your athlete as he tries to qualify for state.
One of Chris’ sisters was an extra in Gone Girl (they filmed it in her town (Cape Girardeau, MO).
That’s so cool for Chris’ sister! I usually don’t register for races until the day of if they have race day registration that isn’t a gazillion dollars. Otherwise, I just start getting nervous.
This is going to sound like I am a stalker but wow! I cannot believe you have been married for a year! I feel like it was just a few months ago that I was flipping through your pictures on here! Congratulations!!
You’re not a stalker at all! I’m going to say the same thing to you about your engagement, and soon to be wedding, pictures!
Wait a second, you signed up for a marathon only ONE WEEK before?! You are brave, lady! That is definitely last minute, but I’m guessing you are prepared and feel pretty good about it. I hear the Denver Rock n Roll marathon is pretty cool – can’t wait to hear about it!
Happy Anniversary. Looks like you had a great time hiking in beautiful country. I saw Gone Girl this past weekend, but never read the book. I wish I had. What an intense movie!! I think I would feel awkward sitting in a theater full of people watching 50 Shades… I still don’t know how they managed to make a movie out of it.
Ha. Yes, one week before. I wasn’t sure if I truly wanted/could do it, so I waited until I had completed a 20-miler and then put it off some more.
Happy One Year Wedding Anniversary! I hope you and Rob had a great day!
I can’t wait to hear about your marathon! You are going to rock it 🙂
Thanks, Heather! I can’t believe it’s been a year already!
Wow, you have been busy! Good luck at RnR Denver this weekend!
Thanks, Cassie! I’m looking forward to it. More with being done, but forward nonetheless.
I’ll admit that I read 50 Shades of Gray, but I CANNOT believe it’s being made into a movie. I have no interest in seeing all those sex scenes, and have no idea how they can make it without it being just pure porn. While I am curious to read the reviews and hear how they do it, I don’t think I’ll actually see it myself.
Reading the book is fine, tons of people did, but the movie version just seems insane to me!
